Myspace and Alter-Egos
Anyone who’s into making music has probably heard about myspace by now. It’s a social networking website that also has musician/band membership. The key thing here is that it allows people to upload their mp3 music for other fans within genre’s to listen to.
I produce several different types of music on my computer and with real instruments (especially guitar) and I thought it was about time I got on-board with myspace to see what all the fuss was about.
Well to put it bluntly the experience was quite bewildering - even for a tech head like me. Getting registered seemed easy but then I found out you needed a different registration as a musican. That given I decided to create an alter-ego character called PhatMonk for my Trance and Dance music mixes. You can hear a finished track created using Tracktion and freeware VST’s by this link …The Phat Monk
Setting up a home page to look anything different to what’s there seems difficult with putting CSS code directly into biography boxes in unusual places. It seems that the layout can be fiddled with but its not easy…
Uploading a finished track was actually quite straightforward though as you will see if you follow the link above.
I’m still exploring how myspace works and how to increase the size of my social network… fans or listeners.
